Social Scene ...Recently, Smith Thaweelertnithi, left, the managing director of Nithifoods Co., Ltd. from San Patong District, Chiang Mai received the wining award at the second STI Thailand Award (Green Innovation) contest for the upper North region as well as for the whole country under the SME cluster category. He received the Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra Award that was presented by Plodprasob Surassawadi, the Minister of Science and Technology at the meeting room of Centara Central World. The contest was organized by National Science Technology and Innovation Policy Office.

On July 11, the Office of the Public Relations Department, Region 3 organized the
Young DPR Awards contest for the Upper North region, under the theme of Democratic Relations at the Radio and Television of Thailand (Chiang Mai station). Representative students from the eight Northern provinces attended the contest. The winner of the Upper North region will take part in the next round at the national level to be held in Bangkok. This quiz contest is held to publicize and encourage democracy, reconciliation and unity among Thai people.

On July 11, Japanese Consul General in Chiang Mai, Kazuo Shibata, right, presented certificates of honour to Toru Kumahata, the founder of the Association of Japanese Language Schools in the Northern Thailand and Nobuko Kumahata who has promoted Japanese language in Chiang Mai. The presentation ceremony was held to praise them for their good deeds, at the Japanese Consulate General in Chiang Mai.

On July 11 at the meeting room of Chiang Mai Rajabhat University, the Chiang Mai Chamber of Commerce along with University Network in the Upper North organized a MoU signing ceremony. Pictured here from left is Narong Kongprasert, the president of Chiang Mai Chamber of Commerce, Prof Dr Wiphada Kunawiktikul, the chairman of the Working Committee on Promoting Development Studies in the universities of the Upper North and Asst Prof Dr Ruangdej Wonglar, the president of Chiang Mai Rajabhat University.
