Dr Surawit Khonsomboon, Deputy Minister for Public Health visited Chiang Mai to inspect the standards of hospitals and markets in the province, so as to make sure that food and products on sale are safe for consumption. Here he inspects the Siriwattana Market on Chotana Road, on June 22. During his inspection tour, he also presented materials and equipment to the 87 chairmen of the Chiang Mai Fresh Markets Club to assist a campaign which aims to cut dengue fever rates in the city.

A dinner reception was held recently at Saenkham Terrace Restaurant in Chiang Mai for the visiting newlywed couple, TV and movie stars Charchris Yaem-ngarm and Wunsen Virithipha. Attending the dinner party were guests of honour including Amnuay Wanpen of the Royal Princess Hotel, Nirut Sirichanya, TV and film actor and Norachai Prasertmanutkitch, advisor of “Chiang Mai Post” and Wanpen Sakdathorn of Niyompanthc Co., Ltd.

The US Embassy (Bangkok) and the US Consulate General (Chiang Mai) on June 27 hosted a Life Science Innovation Conference at Shangri-La Hotel, in Chiang Mai where US ambassador to Thailand Kristie A. Kenney presided over the opening ceremony. The conference was held for two days and it was held to foster development and collaboration in advancing health and education through the Lower Mekong Initiatives project.

Chiang Mai Governor ML Panadda Diskul led government division heads and officials working at the Chiang Mai City Hall in planting some Thong Kwao (Flame of the Forest) trees in the City Hall area. The event was part of a Tree Planting Day promotional campaign launched in Chiang Mai on June 16. Thong Kwao trees are symbolic of Chiang Mai province.

Recently, Shangri-La Hotel, Chiang Mai, led by George Baird, the general manager, the management team and colleagues from the Sales and Marketing Division, hosted the “Cocktail Night Thank You Party” to offer thanks and to strengthen the hotel’s relationships with government agencies, enterprises and corporate organizations in Chiang Mai. The event took place at Silapa Thai Lounge and Bar on the first floor of the hotel.
