At a police checkpoint in Nan province a man was arrested for having 800,000 Yaba amphetamine pills in his Toyota Vigo pickup truck.

In close cooperation with Nan Police, the Provincial Police Bureau, Region 5 made the arrest not long after they set up a check-point in the village of Ban Pao, Moo 5, Tambon Namtok, Na Noi district.

At a press conference on June 15, Pol Lt Gen Suthep Dechraksa, the Commissioner of Police Bureau, Region 5 and Pol Maj Gen Chamnan Ruadrew, Deputy Commissioner said the drugs were destined to be smuggled to Bangkok.  

The police said they found the Yaba tablets in six shoulder bags hidden in the pickup truck and they identified the driver as Suthep Harchcharoenchaikul.

Police also said that another Toyota Vigo pickup truck arrived at the check-point.  The police stopped it for the purpose of conducting a search but the driver and a passenger jumped out and fled the scene.
