THE GREAT CHIANG MAI WATER MYSTERY While much of Thailand has been wallowing in too much water there are parts of Chiang Mai that do not have that problem as, for much of the time, NO WATER AT ALL.

POST BAG : Letters to the Editor - Chiang Mai Post - Chiang Mai - Thailand - Expat - Travel

After the October flooding the Provincial Waterworks Authority (PWA) replaced all the pipes in Tambon Phra Daet, took over the water supply and everyone thought our troubles were over.  Not true; for, since then there has been nothing but trouble.  On a typical day there is water aplenty early in the morning which lessens until about 9.00 o’clock when, frequently, there is none.  It returns slowly later in the day and, by evening, it is plentiful once more.  Repeated calls and e-mails have assured me that this Tambon has a problem but ‘we are working on it’.  Well, that was five months ago.  Today (Sunday) there was no water from 8.00am so I called the emergency number (1662) and told that ‘there was no problem’.

The fact that I often have to take my children to the supermarket to use a toilet because we cannot flush out own is especially annoying.  When the health of my kids is at risk I take particular offence.  Phone calls and e-mails are useless and one guy actually suggested that I may be causing the problem myself; if you can believe that?  So; maybe the people at PWA take a look at themselves and do the job for which we are paying, but I won’t hold my breath waiting.

 Most sincerely,

George W. Davis,

T, Phra Daet, Chiang Mai.
