Thirty-year-old Burmese, Noom or Lek, who is the suspected leader of robber gang in Mae Hong Son, was arrested on Nov 18. by the Mae Hong Son Police team led by Pol. Lt. Wachirawit Akkarachotirat, the deputy investigation inspector.
Mr Noom lives in Pan Province of Burma and has an arrest warrant issued by Mae Hong Son court for robbery and receiving stolen properties. He was arrested at Baan Nai Soi in tambon Pangmoo, Mae Hong Son’s Muang district.
In September, it is alleged that Mr Noom together with another man stole properties from many houses in Mae Hong Son’s Muang district and tambon Mokjampae.
Police also say that they stole bronze tubes from an air-conditioner unit and sold it to a recycle shop in the province.
The police arrested the other man but they said that Mr Noom escaped to Burma. After an arrest warrant was issued, Mr Noom was arrested when he returned to the kingdom and stayed with his friend at the refugee camp at Baan Nai Soi village.
Pol. Lt. Wachirawit said that most of criminal cases in the province are stealing and drug related but most wrong doers are alien laborers and those who enter the kingdom illegally and do not have identity card. Some of them have two nationalities. After committing crimes, these people will escape into Burma where the police cannot follow and arrest them. There are a number of unclosed cases involving such scenarios.
